Pricing FAQs
How does the 10% commission work?
When a hire completes with no dispute, The Hire Site transfers 90% of the hire total directly to the lender's Stripe account. The platform retains 10% to cover payment processing, escrow, insurance infrastructure, and platform costs. There are no hidden charges on top.
What does 'payment held in escrow' mean?
When a hirer pays, the money lands in a ring-fenced Stripe account — not in the lender's bank. It stays there until the hire ends and the lender confirms return. If there's no dispute within 24 hours of return, funds are released automatically. This protects hirers from being charged for items they never received, and protects lenders by ensuring payment is guaranteed before handover.
What are condition reports?
Before handover and after return, both parties can upload timestamped photos via the app. These form a legal record of the item's condition. If there's a damage dispute, the before/after photos are the first thing our team looks at. This stops false claims from either side.
How do hire extensions work?
Either party can request an extension in-app. The other party must approve. Once both agree, the hirer is automatically charged for the extra days at the same daily rate. Insurance (where applicable) extends automatically for the same period. No manual back-and-forth needed.
What is the 2 months free offer for tradesmen?
The first 100 tradesmen to join The Hire Site get 2 months of platform access completely free using code LAUNCH100. No card required for the free period. After 2 months, it's just £5.99/month with no contract. Once 100 slots are gone, the offer closes.
How does identity verification work?
We use Stripe Identity — a government-grade document + selfie check. It takes about 2 minutes. You'll be asked to photograph a valid driving licence, passport, or national ID, and take a quick selfie. Stripe verifies the match. We never store your ID documents — they go directly to Stripe's encrypted vault. Verified users get a badge on their profile.
When do I get paid as a lender?
After the hire ends and the 24-hour dispute window passes with no issues, funds are transferred to your connected Stripe account within minutes. From there, Stripe pays out to your UK bank account — typically same day.
Are there VAT charges on platform fees?
The Hire Site is a UK-registered business. The £5.99 monthly subscription (tradesmen) and 10% commission (listers) are subject to UK VAT at the standard rate where applicable. Full invoices for all platform fees are available in your dashboard.
